How to read the career spread
The career spread has three cards. The first is where you stand today. The second is what is in the way. The third is the way through. Read them in that order, and read the second card slowly. Most people rush past it to get to the good news. But the block is usually the part you came for.
Start with a real decision, not a mood. "Should I ask for the raise this month?" works. "Why is work so hard?" does not, because no card can answer a sigh. If you are weighing two jobs, ask about one of them first. Then draw again for the other and compare. Two small readings beat one big, blurry one.
Pentacles are the suit of work you can touch: pay, skill, time. The Eight of Pentacles shows a craftsman carving coin after coin at his bench. In the first position it says you are in a learning season, and that is fine. The Three of Pentacles shows a mason at work while two people hold the plans. It says your work gets better when others can see it. Wands are drive and projects. The Ten of Wands is a man bent under ten heavy staves. In the middle position it names the block plainly: you carry too much, and some of it is not yours.
An example. Say you ask "should I stay at my job one more year?" and draw the Four of Cups, the Eight of Cups and the Page of Pentacles. The Four of Cups is a young man under a tree, arms crossed, not looking at the cup a hand offers him. That is where you stand: bored, and missing what is on offer. The Eight of Cups, a figure walking away from stacked cups at night, is the block: part of you has already left. The Page of Pentacles, a young man studying one coin in an open field, is the way through: learn one new skill before deciding. The reading does not say stay or go. It says: stop drifting and pick something to learn.
When the last card is hard, it is not a closed door. The Five of Swords as the way through means some fights are not worth winning. The Tower means the change may come whether you plan it or not, so plan it. Take one thing from the reading you can do this week. Write it in your journal next to the cards. It is most useful for naming what you already half know: what is draining you, what you are avoiding, and which next step is actually yours to take. It does not predict hiring decisions, and it is not a substitute for advice from someone who can see your numbers.

Pentacles cover work, money and everything you build slowly. Wands cover drive and the projects you want to start. Swords show up when the real issue is a conversation you have not had. Several wands in a career reading usually means there is energy with nowhere to go.
Should I ask whether to quit my job?
Ask what the decision needs from you rather than what will happen. "What am I not seeing about this job" gives you something to act on whichever cards arrive. A question that starts with will leaves you waiting instead of choosing.
