What the card shows

A king sits on a throne carved with lions and salamanders, holding a living wand, his body turned as if he might stand at any moment. A small salamander sits beside the throne. He is fire that learned to hold still without going out: vision with the patience to command.

King of Wands upright

Upright, the King of Wands is the one who starts things and expects you to keep up. He sits slightly turned, as if the conversation is already over and he is heading somewhere, a sprouting wand in his hand, salamanders and lions on the throne, and a live salamander at his feet with its tail in its mouth: the appetite that has learned to close its own circle. Drawn today he means the plan you have been describing to people is ready to stop being described. He is not asking for a better plan. He is asking which part of it you can begin before Friday, with what is in the room.

King of Wands reversed

Vision curdled into ego. Reversed, the King names the tyrant's shortcut, impatience with others' pace, big promises, delegation refused. Lead the fire; don't just be loud.

Reversed, the fire is all announcement. Six projects opened and none finished, a promise made in the warmth of a conversation and not remembered in the morning, or a person who is impressive for exactly as long as it takes to need something from them. Sometimes it is the harsher version: the leader who has confused being obeyed with being right, and who now hears every question as disloyalty. The salamander gives the cure. Close one circle. Finish the smallest open thing on your list this week, badly if necessary, and the whole suit starts working again.

King of Wands in love

In love, the King of Wands is someone who pursues plainly and does not enjoy guessing. As a person he is warm, direct, a little impatient, and far more loyal than his reputation suggests once he has decided. As a situation he says the bond moves when somebody makes a clear move, and the card is usually looking at you when it says it. If you are waiting for a sign before you act, this is the card that tells you the sign is not coming, because in this suit the sign is the action.

Reversed

Reversed in love, the pursuit stops as suddenly as it started, and the person on the other end is left holding a week of attention with no explanation attached. Sometimes that is a man who got scared by how much he meant it. Sometimes it is a man who was never going to follow through and did not think the warmth counted as a promise. You are allowed to ask which, and the card is clear that the asking is yours to do, because this one does not volunteer.

King of Wands at work

At work he is the founder energy of the deck: vision, appetite, and an allergy to the second half of a project. Drawn about a job, he says the opportunity in front of you rewards initiative and punishes waiting for permission, and that the person who will decide has already half decided in your favour and is waiting to see if you want it. Say the sentence. The salamander at his feet is there to remind you to finish what you start, because this is the exact card that does not.

Reversed

Reversed at work he is the boss who calls the room a family, the founder who is inspiring on Monday and unreachable on Thursday, the person whose plan changes the week after everyone rebuilt around it. If that is someone above you: get things in writing, warmly and without accusation, because his memory of a conversation is the version that suited the moment. If it is you: the team is not resisting the vision, they are trying to finish the last one.

King of Wands and money

With money the King of Wands is a bet on yourself, and he is honest that it is a bet. Income here comes from starting something rather than from holding a position, which means the upside is real and so is the month with nothing in it. The practical read: this is a yes to the investment and a no to doing it without three months of runway. Fire needs something to burn and it does not care whether that thing is the plan or the rent.

Reversed

Reversed with money this is the bet placed without the runway, the launch funded by optimism, the second project started before the first one paid for itself. The card is not against risk; it invented risk. It is against risk taken so that you do not have to sit with how the current thing is actually going. Look at the current thing. The number is knowable and you have been choosing not to know it.

As a feeling, the King of Wands is wanting you and not being embarrassed about it. This is not a subtle card and the person it describes is not running a long game. If it came up about someone, the honest read is that they are interested, they assume you know, and they are mildly confused about why nothing has happened yet.

He burns bright and forgets to eat. The King of Wands rarely arrives as illness and often arrives as a body running on adrenaline and coffee while its owner calls that energy. Watch the heart rate at rest, the temper, and the way sleep gets treated as optional. One real meal and one real night, this week, before the project.
