Birth Card Compatibility

Tarot birth card compatibility reads two people through their birth dates. Each date adds up to a pair of Major Arcana cards. The card on top is your personality, how the world meets you. The card underneath is your soul card, what you are working on. Two people meet in their soul cards. Enter both dates to see both pairs and what the two of you do together, as partners, friends or family.

Both dates stay in your browser. Only the card numbers are counted.

How to read two birth cards together

Start with the top cards. They are how each of you meets the world, so together they are how other people see you as a pair. A Sun and a Tower walk into a party very differently.

Then the soul cards. These are what each of you is working on underneath. When two people share a soul card, they share a lesson. They understand each other fast, and they repeat the same mistakes. When the soul cards differ, each one holds something the other is still learning.

Last, read the pairing, then your own pair again. A compatibility reading does not say whether a relationship will work. It shows where you meet easily, and where you will need to talk.

An example, worked step by step

Say one person was born on 13 April 1975 and the other on 2 August 1990.

First date: 13 + 4 + 1975 = 1992, and 1 + 9 + 9 + 2 = 21, The World. Its soul card is 2 + 1 = 3, The Empress. A life that likes to finish things, with care and growth underneath.

Second date: 2 + 8 + 1990 = 2000, and 2 + 0 + 0 + 0 = 2. A single digit is lifted to the card nine higher, so the pair is Justice (11) over The High Priestess (2). Someone fair in public and intuitive in private.

From the outside, The World and Justice look like a steady, sensible pair. Underneath, The Empress meets The High Priestess: warmth meets intuition. That pairing is a soft, caring one, good for a home, and it asks that both people get looked after too.

What to watch: the Justice side may keep score, and the World side may want to close a subject before it is talked out. Knowing that early is the point of the reading.

All 45 pairings

Every pair of soul cards, from The Magician with The Magician to The Hermit with The Hermit. Find yours by the two cards underneath.

The Magician
The Magician + The Magician
Two people who make things happen. You start more than most couples ever finish: trips, projects, a business, a home. The risk is that you both want the wheel at the same moment. Split the work by what each of you does best, and take turns leading.
The Magician + The High Priestess
One of you acts and the other one senses. The Magician side says let's do it; the High Priestess side says wait, something is off. Both are right more often than not. Before a big decision, ask the one who listens first, then let the one who acts move.
The Magician + The Empress
Skill meets care. One brings the plan and the tools; the other makes things grow and feel like home. This pairing builds lasting things: a house, a family, a shop. Watch that the care does not become something taken for granted. Say thank you out loud.
The Magician + The Emperor
Ideas and structure. The Magician side starts things and the Emperor side makes them last. You are a strong team for anything with a budget and a deadline. You can also argue about control. Agree early on who decides what, and write it down if you need to.
The Magician + The Hierophant
The new way and the proven way. One of you wants to try it; the other wants to know how it is done properly. You learn a lot from each other when both stay curious. Let one of you teach the other a skill this month, then swap.
The Magician + The Lovers
Strong attraction and real choices. The Lovers side feels deeply and wants commitment; the Magician side wants to keep moving. It works when the movement goes in a direction you picked as a couple. Talk about where you are heading before you talk about how fast.
The Magician + The Chariot
A fast couple. You both like goals, and together you get places: a move, a launch, a finish line. The danger is running so hard you stop seeing each other. Once a week, stop and check that you are still headed to the same place.
The Magician + Strength
Drive and patience. One of you pushes, the other holds steady. When things get hard, the Strength side keeps the peace and the Magician side finds the fix. In the hard weeks, let the gentler one set the pace.
The Magician + The Hermit
Out in the world, and deep inside it. The Magician side wants to act now; the Hermit side wants to think it through alone. Neither is wrong. Give the Hermit side time and quiet before a big step, and the step will be better for it.
The High Priestess
The High Priestess + The High Priestess
Two people who read between the lines. You understand each other without many words, which is a gift. It can also mean things go unsaid for too long. Say the obvious thing out loud, even when you both already know it.
The High Priestess + The Empress
Intuition and warmth. One of you senses what is coming; the other makes room for it. This is a soft, caring pair, good for a home and for raising anything: children, a garden, a project. Make sure both of you get looked after too.
The High Priestess + The Emperor
Quiet knowing and clear rules. The Emperor side wants plans and facts; the High Priestess side has a feeling it cannot always explain. You need both. When the feeling and the plan disagree, wait a day before you decide.
The High Priestess + The Hierophant
Inner wisdom and shared tradition. One of you trusts the voice inside; the other trusts what was taught. You often share a deep interest: faith, study, the meaning of things. Respect that you reach the same questions through different doors.
The High Priestess + The Lovers
Depth and desire. The Lovers side wants closeness and clear choices; the High Priestess side keeps part of itself private. That mystery can be part of the pull. Agree on what stays private and what is shared, so nobody feels shut out.
The High Priestess + The Chariot
The quiet one and the one on the move. The Chariot side charges ahead; the High Priestess side sees the bend in the road first. Listen to the warning before you speed up. You still get there, with fewer wrong turns.
The High Priestess + Strength
A gentle pair. You are both patient, and you both feel more than you show. Hard moments rarely turn into fights. The risk is avoiding them altogether. Pick a calm moment each month to name what bothers you.
The High Priestess + The Hermit
Two deep wells. You both need quiet, and you both trust what you find inside. This can be a very peaceful pair, and a lonely one if nobody reaches out. Share what you are thinking, even before it is finished.
The Empress
The Empress + The Empress
Two people who make life comfortable. Good food, a warm home, beautiful things, a lot of care. You can spoil each other, which is lovely. Keep one shared goal that asks something of you both, so the comfort never turns into standing still.
The Empress + The Emperor
The classic pair of the deck: the one who nurtures and the one who builds. Together you can make a home that is both warm and safe. Watch out for fixed roles. Swap jobs now and then, so each of you knows what the other carries.
The Empress + The Hierophant
Warmth and values. One of you brings comfort; the other brings meaning and rules to live by. A good pair for family traditions and for raising children. Leave room for new customs that belong only to the two of you.
The Empress + The Lovers
A romantic pair. Affection, beauty and pleasure come easily. The Lovers side also brings hard choices, and the Empress side may prefer to keep the peace. Do not let comfort stop you from deciding what you want as a couple.
The Empress + The Chariot
Home and the road. The Chariot side wants to go; the Empress side wants to put down roots. It works when the trips come home. Plan the adventure together, and plan the coming back just as carefully.
The Empress + Strength
Tender and steady. This pair is kind to each other and good with other people's pain. Friends come to you for comfort. Save some of that kindness for yourselves at the end of the day.
The Empress + The Hermit
Plenty and simplicity. One of you fills the house; the other empties the calendar. You can teach each other balance: the Empress side learns to rest alone, the Hermit side learns to enjoy. Give each other both: a full table and a quiet room.
The Emperor
The Emperor + The Emperor
Two builders. There is trust, order and a serious eye on the future here. Money and plans are rarely a mess. The hard part is softness: two people used to being in charge. Make room for play, and for being wrong.
The Emperor + The Hierophant
A pair that values rules, promises and doing things properly. Others see you as solid ground. Change may come slowly to you. Once a year, look at one habit as a couple and drop it if it no longer serves you.
The Emperor + The Lovers
Structure and heart. The Emperor side wants security; the Lovers side wants to feel chosen every day. Both needs are real. Make the security romantic: a plan for your future is also a love letter.
The Emperor + The Chariot
Strategy and speed. One of you plans; the other drives. This is a strong pair for work, moves and big goals. Your arguments are about pace. Agree on where you are going first; the speed matters less than you think.
The Emperor + Strength
Firm and gentle. The Emperor side holds the line; the Strength side softens it. You can raise children, lead a team or care for an aging parent with both rules and kindness. In hard talks, let the gentler one speak first.
The Emperor + The Hermit
The doer and the thinker. One of you builds; the other asks why. Each slows the other down in a useful way. Give the Hermit side a say before the plan is fixed, not after.
The Hierophant
The Hierophant + The Hierophant
Two people who care about values. You likely share a faith, a cause or a strong sense of right and wrong. That makes you loyal to each other. It can also make the pair rigid. Learn something new together that neither of you knows well.
The Hierophant + The Lovers
Tradition and choice. In the deck these two cards look alike: a figure above, two people below. One of you follows the rules, the other follows the heart. Your best choices honor both.
The Hierophant + The Chariot
Direction from inside and from outside. The Hierophant side asks what is right; the Chariot side asks what works. You decide well when both questions are asked out loud before you move.
The Hierophant + Strength
Wisdom and patience. A calm pair that people trust, and bring their problems to. Make sure you bring yours to each other too, and do not spend all your patience on everyone else.
The Hierophant + The Hermit
The teacher and the seeker. One of you shares what you know; the other goes looking alone. This pair can grow very wise. Keep a ritual that is only yours: a walk, a book, a question you keep coming back to.
The Lovers
The Lovers + The Lovers
Two hearts that want a real bond. Romance and attraction run strong, and so does the drama of choosing. When something is decided, let it stay decided. Your peace grows from choices you do not reopen every week.
The Lovers + The Chariot
Passion with a direction. You fall fast and you move fast: a shared home, a trip, a new city. Check that you both chose the road, and that one of you is not just along for the ride.
The Lovers + Strength
Desire and gentle control. The Lovers side feels everything at full volume; the Strength side knows how to calm it without putting it out. A warm, loyal pair. In jealous moments, let the Strength side speak first.
The Lovers + The Hermit
Closeness and space. One of you needs to be near; the other needs time alone. Neither is a rejection. Plan your time apart as carefully as your dates, and both needs get met.
The Chariot
The Chariot + The Chariot
Two strong wills. As a pair you can win almost anything you aim at. The problem is aiming at different things. Choose one shared goal each year and pull in the same direction.
The Chariot + Strength
Force and gentleness. The Chariot side pushes through; the Strength side wins by patience. You cover each other's weak spots well. Try the gentle way first, and keep the push for when it fails.
The Chariot + The Hermit
The runner and the walker. One of you races ahead; the other stops to think. That can be frustrating, and it can also save you. Before a big move, give the Hermit side one full day to sleep on it.
Strength
Strength + Strength
Two patient, kind people. Your home is calm and your fights are rare. Real strength also means saying the hard thing. Be brave with each other, not only gentle.
Strength + The Hermit
Quiet courage and quiet wisdom. A gentle, thoughtful pair, good in hard seasons: an illness, a loss, a long project. Make room for fun as well. Not every evening has to be deep.
The Hermit
The Hermit + The Hermit
Two people who need their own space. You respect each other's silence like few couples do. The risk is drifting into two separate lives under one roof. Keep one shared habit every day, however small.

How this reading works

Each date is added the way Mary K. Greer teaches for the birth card: day, month and full year, then the digits, until the number is 22 or less. The page shows that sum for both of you. The reading of each pair and all 45 pairings were written by hand for Tarot Lune.

Common questions

How does birth card compatibility work?

Each birth date becomes a pair of Major Arcana cards: add the day, the month and the full year, then add the digits until you reach 22 or less. The bottom card of each pair is the soul card, one of nine. Two people are read where their soul cards meet, and each person's own pair is read beside it.

Is it only for couples?

No. Friends, siblings, a parent and a child, two people who work together. The pairings talk about the pair, and they read just as well for a friendship.

What if our pairing sounds hard?

Every pairing has an easy side and a side that takes work. A hard one does not mean you should not be together. It names what to talk about early, while it is still small.

Do I need the exact birth time?

No. Only the date. Birth time matters for a birth chart, not for birth cards.
