What the card shows
An armored figure rides a stone chariot drawn by two sphinxes, one black and one white, facing slightly apart. There are no reins: the driver steers with will alone. A canopy of stars covers him and a walled city sits behind; he has left safety to move. Two forces that want different directions, held on one road.
The Chariot upright
Upright, The Chariot gathers its themes into one current: drive, victory, willpower. As an early Major Arcana, it belongs to the opening chapters of the deck's long story: forces you meet, not yet forces you have mastered. Read it as a chapter heading: the current around you is larger than the day.
The Chariot reversed
The wheels are spinning but the chariot isn't moving, or it's moving somewhere you never chose. Reversed, it names lost direction and force applied without aim.
Reversed, The Chariot keeps its subject and loses its flow: drive is still the theme, now blocked, delayed or turned inward. A reversed early Major usually means a foundational force is being resisted: the lesson stands at the beginning of things, and it will wait there until it is taken. A Major Arcana unblocks when you stop managing it and start listening to it: ask what this chapter wants from you, not how to end it.
