What the card shows
A figure stands at a table where all four suits lie ready: wand, cup, sword and coin, every tool the deck has. One hand raises a white wand to the sky, the other points to the ground: what is above brought down into what is here. The infinity sign floats over his head, and roses and lilies grow around the table. Desire and pure intention, both in bloom.
The Magician upright
Upright, The Magician gathers its themes into one current: will, manifestation, skill. As an early Major Arcana, it belongs to the opening chapters of the deck's long story: forces you meet, not yet forces you have mastered. Read it as a chapter heading: the current around you is larger than the day.
The Magician reversed
Talent scattered is talent wasted. Reversed, the Magician warns of tricks, the ones others play, and the ones you play on yourself when you talk instead of doing.
Reversed, The Magician keeps its subject and loses its flow: will is still the theme, now blocked, delayed or turned inward. A reversed early Major usually means a foundational force is being resisted: the lesson stands at the beginning of things, and it will wait there until it is taken. A Major Arcana unblocks when you stop managing it and start listening to it: ask what this chapter wants from you, not how to end it.
