What the card shows
A woman in a white dress closes a lion's mouth with bare hands, and the lion lets her. There is no weapon anywhere in the image. Over her head floats the infinity sign, and a garland of flowers ties her waist to the animal. The strength shown here is not force: it is the patience that a wild thing decides to trust.
Strength upright
Upright, Strength is the quietest power card in the deck. It does not defeat the lion; it stays with the lion until the lion softens. Drawn today, it says the situation needs your steadiness more than your force: the patient voice, the hand that does not flinch, the tenderness that is not weakness because it chooses to stay. It often appears when you are managing something wild, a temper, a craving, a frightened person, a frightened self. You are stronger than the moment feels. Gentle is not the opposite of strong here; gentle is the proof of it.
Strength reversed
Doubt has been gnawing at your grip. Reversed, Strength points to courage running low, or force used where softness was needed. The lion senses hesitation; so do you.
Reversed, Strength names the lion winning, or the tamer squeezing too hard. On one side: the outburst you regretted, the habit that ran you this week, the fear that chose your words. On the other: control so tight it has become its own violence, self-discipline curdled into self-punishment. Both are the same error at different volumes, force where patience was needed. Come back to the picture: bare hands, no weapon, infinity overhead. You do not need to win against yourself today. You need to sit with the animal until it trusts you again.

In love, Strength is the hand on the lion's jaw: patience with someone's temper, or your own, without leaving and without hitting back. It appears in relationships that need steadiness more than passion right now, and in the moment after a fight when one of you decides to stay soft. Drawn for a new bond, it says the other person is stronger than they show and gentler than they fear. Meet them there.
Reversed
Reversed in love, Strength is the temper that won this week, or the control that squeezed too hard. Jealousy checked and rechecked, a partner managed instead of trusted, an apology that never came because saying it felt like losing. Neither of you is the lion. Sit down together until the fear passes.
Strength at work
At work, Strength is the calm voice in the hard meeting. The colleague who explodes, the client who threatens, the project that keeps biting: this card says do not match the heat. Stay, speak slowly, hold the line without raising it. It also names the long game, the skill built through boring repetition until the wild thing obeys. Drawn for a promotion question, it favors the person who kept their head last quarter.
Reversed
Reversed at work, Strength is the email sent in anger, the boundary never set, or a discipline so rigid the team stopped breathing. If you have been white-knuckling a job, the card says the grip is the problem. Loosen one thing this week: a deadline, a standard, your jaw.
Strength and money
Around money, Strength is patience with the craving. The purchase that roars at you at eleven at night, the sale you almost cannot refuse, the urge to fix a bad month with one big move. The card does not say deprive yourself. It says stay with the wanting until it softens, which it does, usually by morning. Drawn for debt, it favors the slow, steady payment over the dramatic plan.
Reversed
Reversed around money, Strength is the lion loose in the wallet: spending that soothes fear, or the opposite, a control so tight you punish yourself for a coffee. Both come from the same place. Find the fear under the number and speak to it gently before you touch the budget.

Strength answers yes, on one condition the card itself shows: the yes is won with patience, not pressure. Push and it becomes a no.
Strength as feelings
As feelings, Strength is tenderness that has decided to stay. If someone draws it about you, they feel calm near you, and a little tamed by it, in a way they like. If it describes your own feeling, you are holding something wild with more grace than you give yourself credit for.
Health and energy
For the body, Strength is patience with your own animal: the craving, the tiredness, the habit that runs you. Do not fight it at full volume. Feed it something better, on a schedule, and stay close. The body trusts what stays.
In spirit
As a practice, Strength is the infinity sign over the woman's head: a calm that does not run out because it is not yours alone. Sit with the hardest feeling of the day for five minutes without fixing it. That is the lion, and that is the hand.

1. The pictures
In the Five of Wands, five young men swing staves at each other and nobody is hurt. In Strength, a woman closes a lion's mouth with her bare hands, an infinity sign over her head. In the Six of Cups, a child hands a smaller child a cup full of flowers, in an old courtyard.

The past is the fighting: loud, constant, more noise than war. The present is how you hold something wild: gently, and without letting go. The future is the old closeness, from before the doors started closing.
