What the card shows
A moon with a quiet face rains soft drops of light over a path that runs between two towers into dark hills. A dog and a wolf howl up at it: the tame fear and the wild one, both awake. From the pool at the bottom, a crayfish climbs out of the deep. Everything in the picture is half seen. The path is real, but it must be walked without full light.
The Moon upright
Upright, the Moon says you are navigating by reflected light, and asks you to admit it. Part of the picture is missing: information withheld, a feeling not yet named, a fear projecting shapes onto an ordinary road. Nothing here says danger; everything says distortion. The card's counsel is specific: keep walking, slowly, and refuse to make permanent decisions inside temporary fog. Write things down, dreams, hunches, the 2 a.m. certainties, and reread them at noon. The path between the towers does lead through. The Moon only asks that you not mistake the middle of the night for the shape of your life.
The Moon reversed
The fog is lifting. Reversed, the Moon marks the end of a confusion, a truth surfacing, a fear seen at actual size. Things look worse at 3 a.m. than they are.
Reversed, the Moon is the fog beginning to lift, or the refusal to let it. In its kind form, secrets surface on their own: a truth comes out, a confusion resolves, you catch your own fear in the act of writing fiction. In its stubborn form, the clarity is available and unwanted, because the mystery had become comfortable, or the illusion was load-bearing. Reversed, the card asks you to cooperate with the dawn: ask the direct question, read the message you have been avoiding, name the fear out loud once. Daylight is coming either way. Walking toward it is faster and kinder than being found by it.
